A Nice Walk

"Cheltenham has no cathedral,no stately homes,no theme parks, beaches or spectacular scenery. No major battles were fought here, not does any famous figure tower over the town. It is known for its spa, but visitors are generally warned off this unpalatable tipple. But the spa, and the money it attracted, paid for the country's first garden city, and a surprising number of talented and well known characters are associated with it.

The term most often associated with the town seems to be  'nice' but not in any derogatory way. This walk is designed to take the reader on a circuit of the town, visiting lesser known sites, and providing unusal anecdotes on the buildings and people associated with them. So, if you would like to know about a politicised dog, a drunken circus clown, a pioneer of world music or an engineer who was green way ahead of his time, please read - or walk - on."
